National holiday on 6 December

Please note that our office will be closed for Finland’s Independence Day on 6 December!

We wish everyone a Happy Independence Day, and look forward to serving you again on Tuesday, 7 December.

Our office is open all summer

We are open all summer, and available to serve you throughout the holiday season. However, on 25 June our office will be closed for Midsummer.

Summer holidays will affect our capacity particularly in July, though. Please note this when planning translation orders!

Where possible, it is a good idea to let us know about upcoming urgent requests in advance so that we can book the required resources in good time, and ensure delivery within the desired deadline.

For additional tips on how to get a quote or a translation as quickly and smoothly as possible, check out our ‘Translation Buyer’s Checklist‘.

We wish everyone a happy Midsummer, and a lovely holiday season!

Twenty years of translation and language services

This year marks the 20th anniversary for our company. During our anniversary year we will take a glance at the past, a look to the future, and hope the current restrictions will be eased so that we can celebrate together in the autumn.

When our company was established in December 2001, it was called Maris Translations Oy and had just two employees: founders Jukka Pohjola and Maarit Satukangas-Pohjola. At that time they already had extensive experience in translation, localisation, project management and language technology tools through education and employment in the industry.

Today, the company is known as Maris Multilingual, and it employs a team of translation industry professionals. We all work in close co-operation with an international network of partners from a number of countries around the world. All our staff members have appropriate academic training and solid professional skills. They can manage all stages of a translation project with commitment and competence, from individual translation and proofreading assignments to extensive multilingual translation projects.

Maris Multilingual offers translation services in all major European and Asian languages covering many specialist fields. We have an increasing number of customers in Finland and abroad. We have a translation server, a project management portal and highly efficient operating processes, honed over the years to ensure smooth services and continuously adapted to meet the needs of our customers.

To our customers, we want to be a reliable partner that supports their international operations by supplying professional language services to meet their varying and increasing communication needs. Everything we do is based on our values: commitment, high quality and excellent customer service.

As we approach our 20th anniversary, we would like to thank our loyal customers and partners for their support over the years, enabling us to become the leading provider of multilingual communication services in Lahti.

What is quality in translation work?

It is commonly said that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. There is also room for preference when it comes to assessing translations, because such work always involves a certain amount of creativity and choices.

Different languages describe the world in different ways. When trying to express a thought in another language, often the best that one can achieve is the closest possible correspondence. There is no fully correct or perfect translation of any text, rather the task always involves striking a balance between accurate transmission of meaning and the means of expression available in the target language.

Onward to 2021!

This year, 2020, has posed unexpected challenges to many people and companies, including to us, of course. However, as we would rather focus on the bright side of things, we decided to list a few areas where we succeeded this year:

  • No one in our team caught COVID-19. In fact, we had no absences due to sickness among the staff all year.
  • We all switched smoothly and efficiently to remote working, without any hassle, causing no delays or disruption in our service.
  • Despite the drop in demand during the uncertain situation in the spring and the summer, we did not need to implement any layoffs.
  • Positive feedback from our customers is always a great cause for joy! The average score of all the customer feedback we received during the year was 4.76 (on a scale of 1–5)!

A big thank you to all our colleagues, partners, and customers for your support and the excellent co-operation; and we wish you a happy, successful, and healthy new year 2021!

Happy holidays!

The demand for language services has been increasing through autumn after the sudden, temporary decrease last spring. To us it shows that communication is extremely important also (and particularly) under exceptional conditions. That is why we are optimistic in our expectations regarding the coming year, hoping that you and all of our customers share similar optimism.

Our company was established in December 2001, so next year marks our 20th anniversary. Our operations have grown and expanded over the years, and we thank our valued customers and partners for continued co-operation and support!

We want to keep providing reliable, versatile, and high quality services in the future, too, to support your international activities. In today’s rapidly changing world this requires agility and the ability to develop and keep up with the changes. That will be our aim also in the future, based on the needs and wishes of our customers.

Wishing you happy and joyful Holidays, and a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year 2021!

Maarit Satukangas-Pohjola

Managing Director

Maris Multilingual Oy

A significant reinforcement to the Maris team

Maris Multilingual gained a great deal of technical expertise as a shareholder in the company, Jukka Pohjola, joined our team.

Pohjola was previously employed by Kemppi, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of arc welding equipment and related software services, based in Lahti, for fourteen years. His duties ranged from technical writing, content production, copywriting, translation and revision to the development of technical documentation and welding industry terminology.

Training future translators

Training translators

Our company participated again in a unique course organised in co-operation between the University of Helsinki and selected Finnish language service providers. The initiative, launched in 2015, is supported by the European Language Industry Association (ELIA), and it aims at bridging the gap between academic education and work. Maris Multilingual has been onboard each year since the beginning, helping to provide students with practical working life skills.
